The Rev’d William Locke has been a priest in the Diocese of Rhode Island for over twenty years, having been ordained by Bishop George Hunt as deacon in 1993 and priest in 1994. He served as Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pawtucket, and then St. Paul’s, Pawtucket, from 1994 -2013. He has since served as Interim Rector of St. Martin’s, Providence, St. Peter’s by-the-Sea, Narragansett, St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea, Little Compton, and Trinity, North Scituate.
Fr. Bill grew up just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. After two years at the University of Illinois, he then spent time working as a community organizer in Chicago. A move to Boston brought his discovery of the Episcopal Church, a return to school at U-Mass, Boston, and then attending the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge. The move to Boston also brought the discovery of Bill’s wife, Ethel, now a physics teacher at Woonsocket High School. They have two adult daughters, Emma and Abigail.
Fr. Bill has been an Associate of the Society of St. Margaret (a religious order of sisters in the Episcopal Church) for 40 years, and is a charter member of the Society of Catholic Priests. He has previously served in the diocese as President of the Standing Committee, member of Diocesan Council, and Deputy to General Convention.
