“Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you,
Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.”
– Deuteronomy 15:11
These words of God are the strong foundation upon which St. John’s Open Hands Garden is named. In just its first year of existence, our garden produced hundreds of pounds of fresh produce we were able to give to several East Bay feeding programs for the poor. The beauty of this outreach effort is that no previous gardening experience is necessary…in fact, some of our youngest members take part in planting and harvesting with their parents! Currently our growing season is between April/May, through early October…but we hope to extend that season in the future, by growing this ministry into a greenhouse! If you would like to take part in the exciting growth of this ministry, please contact Dale West, Parish Administrator if yo are interested in learning more.
